The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has commended the Operation Walk programme for its life-changing impact on patients in need of orthopaedic surgery at the St Joseph Hospital in Koforidua.
The Minister made the remarks during a visit to the facility, where he witnessed firsthand how the initiative is helping Ghanaians who previously faced surgery costs of up to GH₵70,000 to now access affordable care. He described the intervention as both “lifesaving and economically transformative.”
According to the Minister, plans are underway for further collaboration between the Ministry and Operation Walk to expand similar medical services to northern, central, and other underserved regions.
“Government will do whatever it takes to strengthen this partnership and ensure these missionary services reach other parts of the country,” he said.
Mr Akandoh also encouraged individuals and organisations wishing to support the health sector to channel their donations through the Ministry to ensure accountability and equitable distribution.
“These are the kinds of partnerships Ghana needs,” the Minister emphasised, pledging the Ministry’s full support for initiatives that bring relief and restore dignity to patients nationwide.
Director of Operation Walk, Kimberly Murray, expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s continued support and commended the Ghanaian medical team for their dedication and teamwork.
“The commitment of local doctors and nurses continues to inspire our visiting team, as together we are transforming lives and strengthening Ghana’s surgical capacity for the future,” she said.
