The Minister of Health, Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has condemned the attack on health professionals at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital’s or Ridge Hospital Emergency Department.
The incident, captured in a viral social media video, involved relatives of an accident victim clashing with medical staff over alleged delays in treatment, leading to verbal aggression and assault of a nurse.
“We have a clear mandate to deliver, to improve upon the health sector,” the Minister of Health said while addressing the media. “We have Mahama Cares to deliver, we have free primary health care to deliver, and we are aggressively pursuing it.”
Speaking on the importance of supporting health workers amidst challenges in the sector at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Mr Akandoh highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery. “We have to ensure that claims and national health insurance are paid properly…We have our health facilities to retool. Maybe within a week I will be taking delivery of equipment for screening of cervical cancer by Telecell,” he stated.
The Minister emphasized the importance of backing initiatives for the nation’s benefit. “Why we take on this? It’s important for our nation. We have to follow up on this. Today as I speak to you now, people sit at the comfort of their homes and can apply.”
