Ghana’s current Covid situation has been described as stable despite recording an increase in figures.

675 cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the countries active case count to 6,938 and total confirmed cases to 73,003.

The number of deaths has also increased to 482 after ten more deaths were recorded.

Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye noted that Greater Accra is still the epicenter of the disease with increasing number of workplace outbreaks.

He however said there has been a drop from the seven hundred and above threshold the country has been recording in the last few weeks.

Ghana`s Covid-19 cases has since December seen a sharp rise after being stable for about three months. Experts have blamed the increase on non-adherence to the safety protocols and a lifting of the ban on restrictions.

President Akufo-Addo during his last address reintroduced some restrictions to reduce cases. These include mandatory wearing of face masks and enhancement of other hygiene protocols at all levels.

Giving a breakdown of figures in Accra, Dr. Kumah Aboagye also announced that testing has been intensified.

On the situation at the airport, he said there has been a reduction in positive cases being recorded.

Meanwhile, no South African strain of the virus has been detected in Ghana so far.
