The first ever distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines by drone was undertaken in the Ashanti Region by Zipline Ghana in partnership with the Ghana Health Service.

The first four batches of the vaccines were dropped at the Asuofua Health Centre in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District and it is expected that over 11,000 doses would be distributed to health centres across the region on the first day.

At the Asuofua Health Centre, the first officials to receive their COVID-19 shots included the DCE for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Rebecca Yeboah, the MP for the area, Benito Owusu Bio, the District Health Director, Eric Sarpong as well as the Regent of Asuofua, Nana Agyei Boakye.

The General Manager of Zipline Ghana, Naa Adorkor Yawson explained that the use of drones will ensure that those in the hard to reach areas of the country get access to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Member of Parliament for Atwima Nwabiagya North, Benito Owusu Bio, after taking his shot encouraged the public to avail themselves of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Ten vaccination centres have been set up in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District and about 3,500 people are expected to be vaccinated.
