President Donald Trump has stated that he has done nothing wrong therefore, would not apologize to the Obamas after a racist video on his Truth Social account that depicted former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes in a jungle was posted and deleted.
The video, which was online for nearly 12 hours, promoted claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election and briefly showed the Obamas with their faces superimposed onto apes, accompanied by the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” in the “Lion King” movie.
President Trump claimed he hadn’t seen the final frames of the video, blaming a staffer for the mistake, and refused to apologize, saying “I didn’t make a mistake”.
He initially explained that the post was about voter fraud, then later condemned the racist imagery, stating “Of course I do” when asked if he condemned the video.
“I looked at it , I saw it, I just looked at the first part. It was about voter fraud in some place in Georgia but I didn’t see the whole thing.
I guess during the end of it, there was some kind of a picture that people don’t like, I wouldn’t like it either.
We took it down after we found out but I won’t apologize I didn’t make a mistake”, he said answering questions from journalists.
The incident sparked widespread criticism, including from Republican Senator Tim Scott, who called the video “the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House” and urged Trump to remove it. Other Republicans, like Senator Roger Wicker, also condemned the post, saying it was “totally unacceptable” and called for an apology.
