President John Dramani Mahama has issued a stern warning to criminals and violent elements who target personnel of the Ghana Police Service, declaring that the state will respond decisively to any attack on officers.

Addressing police officers on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Police Headquarters in Accra, the President said government will “hunt down and neutralise” anyone who harms, injures, or kills a police officer in the line of duty.

The warning follows a recent memorial service held to honour police officers who lost their lives over the past year, many of whom were shot by armed robbers and other criminal elements.

“Several of them had been shot either by armed robbers or other criminal elements. To serve notice that the police will deal very ruthlessly with anybody who harms, injures or kills a police officer, we will hunt them down and we will neutralise them,” the President stated.

He stressed that the message was meant as a clear deterrent to criminal groups across the country.

“This is serving notice to those elements. If you shoot at a police officer, we will come after you,” President Mahama warned.

The President was speaking at a ceremony to officially hand over one hundred (100) pick-up vehicles to the Police Administration, aimed at enhancing operational capacity and improving police visibility nationwide.

According to him, the vehicles form part of government’s broader commitment to strengthening security agencies and ensuring the safety of officers as they carry out their constitutional mandate.

President Mahama urged police personnel to remain professional and firm in the discharge of their duties, assuring them of government’s unwavering support in the fight against crime.
