Minister for the interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has stated that key immigration, citizenship and security services will go fully digital in bid to transform the Ministry’s Service Delivery Systems.

He made this known during a press briefing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 in Accra where he stressed that the
public must endeavor to monitor whatever is done at the Ministry and provide feedback to them to ensure excellent work is done in a bid to boost efficiency, transparency, and data security.

The initiative is tightly linked to the National Identification Authority (NIA) systems, allowing real-time verification and integration of applicant data across government platforms.

According to him, under the reform, companies in Ghana that hire foreign workers will now apply for immigrant quota permits through an online portal, replacing the old paper-heavy process and helping the ministry strictly enforce limits designed to protect job opportunities for Ghanaians. Renunciation of Ghanaian citizenship, dual nationality and dual citizenship card applications, and related services that were previously handled manually at the Interior Ministry or missions abroad are also being migrated onto digital platforms.

“We will not do manual work anymore”, he noted.

The new system covers registration as a citizen of Ghana by descent, naturalisation for foreigners who meet the legal requirements, and registration of minors whose parents have acquired Ghanaian citizenship, allowing families to complete processes remotely and track progress online. He added that this shift will cut processing times, reduce backlogs, and minimise errors associated with handling large volumes of physical forms.

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak also mentioned a core feature of the platform which is an integrated tracking dashboard that lets applicants see which stage their request has reached and which desk is handling it, while giving the ministry leadership visibility over bottlenecks and staff performance in real time. Integration with the NIA database enables automatic verification and harmonisation of identity data, strengthening safeguards against fraud and reinforcing the integrity of official records.

In addition, the Interior Ministry according to him is digitising licensing and permit processes for private security organisations, explosives, arms and ammunition, firearms, auctioneers, and key-cutting businesses, sectors considered vital to national security oversight.
