The team behind the much-anticipated Ghanaian film “King of T3ma” joined GTV’s Breakfast show on, Thursday, November 13, 2025, to share insights into the making of the movie; a gritty, emotional story inspired by real life in Tema.
The movie is set to premiere on Friday, November 14, 2025 with a red-carpet event at the Silverbird Cinemas; Accra Mall and West Hills mall and will also premiere in Kumasi at the Golden Eagle Cinemas and Cape Coast, Topper Center. The movie also stars the legendary Ghanaian actor Fred Amugi.
Director and producer Kobina De Graff Johnson explained the inspiration behind the film, saying, “I wanted to tell a local story, because our stories are important, especially being from Tema. You can’t tell a story about Tema and leave the real parts out.”
The co-producer Mark Coffie Jr., who also makes a cameo appearance, described his experience as deeply eye-opening. “We went into the hardcore areas to see how people truly live. It didn’t shock me that it exists, but it was surprising to see how real it is, what people are doing to survive.” he said.
For David ‘Big Tim’ Osabutey, who also makes his acting debut in “King of T3ma” as “Paa Kwesi”, the role was both a challenge and a revelation to him. “My biggest surprise was how I was able to do it,” he said. “Even though I’ve done drama in church, this was on another level. My director prepped me, and I was able to bring it to life.”
The movie set across key locations including the Tema Port, Community 8, and Community 1. The film captures the rawness, faith, and fight of life in the harbor city. As De Graff Johnson puts it, “When you are desperate, you make decisions that normally you wouldn’t make if you weren’t desperate.”
“King of T3ma” promises a powerful story of redemption and, a spotlight on the resilience of Ghana’s youth.
