Renowned playwright and producer, Latif Abubakar, has presented a ₵5,000 cheque to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) in support of the TV Licence Fee campaign. The amount represents the payment of licence fees for about 138 television sets used by members of his production company, Globe Productions.

The presentation took place at Latif Abubakar’s studio, where members of the GBC Digital Studio Team and a representative from the Finance Department were present to receive the cheque.

According to Mr. Abubakar, the gesture was a token of appreciation to cover the TV Licence fees for one year for 135 members, including actors, crew members, ushers, and stagehands who contribute to Globe Productions’ artistic works.

“This is a token from us to cover the TV Licence fee for a year for a hundred and thirty-five members, actors, crew members, ushers, stage hands — everybody that works within the artistic field of Globe Productions,” he said.

He explained that the motivation behind the donation stemmed from the dedication and hard work of GBC staff, whose efforts continue to provide quality content and authentic Ghanaian stories to the public.

“We appreciate your good work and dedication in giving us good content and good stories,” he added.

Representing GBC, Miss Sharon Zoe Williams and Savannah Pokuah received the cheque on behalf of the Corporation. They expressed gratitude to Latif Abubakar and assured him that the funds would be used appropriately to further support the TV Licence initiative.

Mr. Abubakar also revealed his intention to partner with GBC on future productions aimed at promoting local content and strengthening Ghana’s creative industry.

The GBC TV Licence Fee campaign encourages individuals and organizations to support public service broadcasting through the payment of their licence fees, which help sustain quality programming and national development through media.
