Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, Sulemana Braimah, has acknowledged that although the media in Ghana have been largely free, there are still some setbacks in the industry.

He identified attack, abuse and lack of requisite capacity building for media practitioners as major hindrances in media practice.

Mr. Braimah said this in an interview with GBCNEWS, as Ghana joins the rest of the Global community to observe World Press Freedom Day today.

He said government has a major role in upholding safety of journalists.

Mr. Braimah noted that journalists have a role in ensuring their own safety in the quest to serve the public.

He called for support for the media as well as associations dedicated to safety of journalists.
