Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) management met with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to ramp up preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing plans to beam every Mundial match to audiences nationwide.

Kofi Adams praised GBC’s team while pushing for expanded collaboration beyond the tournament, zeroing in on school sports coverage to grow the game at its roots.

Adams demanded swift action on a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to supercharge school sports, nurture talent, and spark passion for local clubs. “Let this not be just one of sight and visits, let’s immediately put it into action by working out the MOU, how it will be structured, especially our school sports,” he stressed.

Spotlighting schools as talent hubs, the Minister championed guiding youth toward professional paths. “I’m particularly interested in school sports because that’s where we can enhance all the talent and guide them to commercializing their talent and professionalizing it in different ways,” Adams said, envisioning a “farm culture” to pipeline grassroots stars to elite levels.

He lamented fans’ obsession with European football over local giants like Medeama, Hearts of Oak, and Asante Kotoko. “We can bring back this culture,” Adams urged. “Once there is love for football and they learn what is far away, prepare what is closer nicely, and they will go for it.” GBC’s role in broadcasting could reignite that domestic fire.

Framing the tie-up as mutual benefit, Adams declared: “It’s a golden opportunity to work together… We all are going to be beneficiaries of it.” This World Cup prelude promises infrastructure gains, blending global spectacle with homegrown revival for sustainable sports growth.
