The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has hosted a high-level Learning Exchange with a delegation from the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Accra, aimed at strengthening regional collaboration on the regulation of non-profit organisations (NPOs).

Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Head of the Non-Profit Organisation Secretariat, Mr. Felix Logah, congratulated Nigeria on its recent removal from the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list. He reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to advancing transparency, accountability and risk-based supervision within the NPO sector.

Mr. Logah outlined ongoing reforms in Ghana’s regulatory environment, including the development of a new NPO Bill designed to streamline registration processes, clarify institutional oversight roles, and enhance coordination among key stakeholders. These include the Financial Intelligence Centre, the Registrar General’s Department and the Ghana Police CID.

He stressed that regional cooperation is essential to strengthening compliance frameworks across West Africa, describing the engagement as a critical opportunity for both countries to deepen collaboration, exchange best practices and build resilient systems that protect civic space.

Board Chair of the WACSI Node Nigeria, Mr. Oladayo Olaide, expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its longstanding support to the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI). He noted that the visit coincided with WACSI’s 20th anniversary and the recently held West Africa Civil Society Week. Mr. Olaide emphasized the importance of African countries learning from one another, particularly as global development financing continues to shift.

Delegates from both Ghana and Nigeria also explored practical approaches to NPO due diligence, registration processes, data sharing frameworks, and institutional coordination.

The Learning Exchange concluded with a renewed commitment from both countries to sustained dialogue, peer learning and future capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening NPO regulation and safeguarding civic space across the West African sub-region.
