Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Nima, has outlined his plans to tackle youth unemployment, promote education, and improve community facilities ahead of the March 3, 2026 by-election.
Speaking at a debate organised by the Concerned Nima Citizens Foundation, Ahmed said the increasing engagement of youth in crime and drug abuse is largely due to the lack of recreational spaces and constructive activities. He stressed the importance of creating dedicated areas where children can play, learn, and develop skills.
“Everywhere you go, the recreational facilities that once nurtured our children have been taken over by developers,” Ahmed said. “We need to provide new spaces for children to play football, engage in arts, and develop their talents. Once we do this, many of the youth will stay away from drugs and crime, and those already affected can be rehabilitated.”
He also spoke about expanding scholarship opportunities and supporting youth through skill development programs. He shared that he has leveraged personal connections with NGOs to educate over a thousand young people, and currently provides interest-free loans to local residents to support small businesses and livelihoods in Nima.
On healthcare, Baba Jamal highlighted his contributions to the Nima Clinic, where he built sheds to create more peaceful and functional spaces for patients. He said his approach combines education, skill training, and community support to create long-term impact for the constituency.
In a follow-up interview on GBC News hour 26th February 2026 , Baba Jamal stressed the need to change perceptions about Nima and highlight its potential as a hub for economic and social development. He said he has visited institutions across the constituency to engage directly with residents and national assets, aiming to ensure that young people have access to employment and skills training.
“I grew up here, I have worked here, and I believe the people know me,” Ahmed said. “My vision is clear, prepared since 2023, and I just need the opportunity to implement it. We want to make sure that every young person in Nima feels part of the development process and has hope for the future.”
The by-election in Nima is set for March 3, 2026, with candidates from the NDC, New Patriotic Party (NPP), the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), and independent contenders vying for the parliamentary seat.
