The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo Markin has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led government over failure to implement key economic policies promised during the campaign for election.
Speaking during an engagement with the Young Commons Forum at the University of Cape Coast, on February 21, the legislator Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, said the slow rollout of initiatives such as the 24-hour economy policy and the proposed Women’s Bank is contributing to rising unemployment and increasing economic pressure
“The past one year we have seen a government that believes in rhetoric that talks more than it works, it promised the people of Ghana one job three shifts and called it 24-hour economy, it promised women banking, it promised to increase the producer price of cocoa to six thousand, today unemployment is on a rise, today this government has failed to implement its own flagship initiative the initiative of one job three shift, today it has rather created a bureaucracy for its so called 24 hour economy to our mind in the minority is more of a slogan than a policy, the woman banking has also seen the light of the day”
He further urged the government to move away from political discourse and focus on core duties of governance.
Meanwhile government has reiterated that the rollout of the 24-Hour Economy policy has delayed to prevent the initiative from being politicized and to allow for extensive stakeholder engagement before implementation in recent times.
