The ruling National Democratic Congress’s (NDC), Ewurabena Aubynn, has been sworn in by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, as the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra region.
Madam Aubynn’s assumption of office follows a hotly contested rerun in 19 polling stations within the constituency which were under contention.

The rerun was necessitated after the December 2024 parliamentary elections ended in a stalemate, amid allegations of electoral irregularities and the submission of unauthenticated pink sheets.
These issues prompted the Electoral Commission to withhold a final declaration at the time.
In the July rerun, the ruling NDC candidate secured a narrow victory, polling 34,090 votes against the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes.
The short but colourful ceremony, took place today, Tuesday, July, 2025 on the floor of Parliament
However, the ceremony was marked by the usual dramatization by the NPP minority caucus. A handful of members present in the House staged a walkout.
The minority’s action followed the Speaker’s decision to reject a request by the Minority Chief Whip, Mr. Frank Annor Dompreh, to make a statement prior to the swearing-in.
