The National Identification Authority (NIA) says the Ghana Card is the same as the ECOWAS Identity Card, hence Ghanaians would not have to register for another Ghana Card.
The clarification has become necessary because the inscription on the card reads “ECOWAS Identity Card” despite the general reference to the card as Ghana Card.
At a media briefing in Accra, Executive Secretary of the Authority, Professor Kenneth Attafuah, explained that the Authority was compelled to integrate the features of the proposed ECOWAS Passport after Ghana signed on to be part of the initiative.
Prof. Attafuah announced that registration for the Ghana Card will resume in the Eastern Region Thursday, June 18 after the process was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
