The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed viral reports suggesting it has approved a plan for officials of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to travel abroad to offer driver’s licence registration and renewal services to Ghanaians living in the diaspora.

In a statement issued on Thursdat, February 26, 2026, the Ministry clarified that it has not granted approval for any such arrangement in countries including the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, The Netherlands and Germany.

According to the Ministry, it has neither issued directives to Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad nor sanctioned any entity to undertake driver’s licence registration or renewal exercises outside the country.

The statement further emphasised that the Ministry is unaware of any new government policy supporting such a move and has no official record indicating a shift in that direction.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention and no financial commitment as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishes,” the release noted.

The Ministry assured the public of its continued commitment to transparency and financial prudence in the delivery of public services, urging media organisations and the general public to disregard the misleading reports.
