The Ghana Education Service, GES, has refuted claims about the decrease in academic year of the free SHS Double Track System to only 81 days.

Speaking on GBC’s Radio Ghana, the Head of Public Relations of the Service, Cassandra Twum Ampofo explained that each academic year comprises two semesters or 162 teaching days and not 81 days as being rumoured.

She insisted that the introduction of the semester system and the Double Track School calendar has rather increased the number of hours of instruction in an academic year to 1,134 hours.

Madam Ampofo also indicated that the closure of schools in Chereponi was on the back of the recent clashes in the area.
