The New Patriotic Party (NPP), has settled on a total of 72 persons with voting rights for the Greater Accra Regional Supper Delegates’ Conference slated for August 26, 2023, at Accra High School.
The delegates are drawn from the constituency to the regional level; for example, three (3) persons are selected from the Regional Representatives on the National Council; Founding Members have four (4); seventeen (17) from the Regional Executives; thirty-four (34) Constituency Chairmen; and fourteen (14) sitting Members of Parliament, bringing the total to seventy-two (72) for the exercise.
The August 26 Super Delegates’ Conference aimed to reduce the number of aspirants from ten to five to make way for the Presidential Primaries to select a flagbearer, slated for November 4, 2023, for the 2024 general elections.
The party banned phone and camera usage at conference grounds as part of the measures to avoid vote-buying and co.
Ten presidential aspirants, including Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, are in the race to lead the NPP in the 2024 presidential elections.
After the balloting on July 26, this is how the candidates will appear on the ballot papers: Ken Ohene Agyapong (one), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen (two), Joe Ghartey (three), Kwadwo Poku (four), Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto (five), Kwabena Agyei Agyepong (six), Francis Addai Nimoh (seven), Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku (eight), Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko (nine), and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia (10).
Meanwhile, the Presidential Elections Committee, chaired by the former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Michael Oquaye, promised a free, fair, and transparent election on Saturday.
According to him, the Party has put in place adequate measures to ensure that the election is credible, successful, and acceptable to all.
Professor Michael Oquaye noted that the outcome of the election will be suitable for all due to the measures put in place to ensure the transparency of the polls.
“Whatever queries the aspirants had, I can assure you that they had all been dealt with, and it was in exercise toward a democratic end. If you have any difficulty, please contact the secretary of the committee or headquarters as a whole, and you will have those queries duly answered.”
