Ghanaian swimmer Nubia Adjei has smashed the national record in the women’s 50m butterfly, clocking an impressive time of 28.82 seconds at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships held in Singapore.

This performance surpassed the previous record of 29.14 seconds, set by fellow Ghanaian Joselle Mensah during the same competition. Adjei’s achievement marks a significant milestone for Ghanaian swimming on the global stage.

Adjei’s record-breaking swim demonstrated her growing prowess in butterfly events, a stroke that requires exceptional strength and technique. She managed to finish third in the heat 4 event, showcasing her competitive edge against some of the world’s best swimmers.

The 28.82 seconds she recorded stands as a new national benchmark, raising the standard for Ghanaian swimmers in international competitions.

The previous record holder, Joselle Mensah, had earlier set multiple national records at this championship, including in freestyle events, showing a rising standard for Ghana in aquatic sports.

Adjei herself is not only a specialist in the butterfly but also holds the Ghanaian national record in the 100m backstroke. Her ability to excel in multiple disciplines illustrates the depth of talent developing within Ghana’s swimming team.

Ghana’s performance at the World Aquatics Championships this year highlights the country’s ongoing commitment to nurturing swimming talent and gaining recognition on the world stage.

Supported by the Ghana Swimming Association, athletes like Adjei and Mensah are spearheading this effort through their record-setting performances.

Their successes inspire many young swimmers back home and contribute to raising Ghana’s profile in the sport.

With the 2025 World Aquatics Championships providing such a promising platform, expectations are high for both Adjei and Mensah as they continue to compete internationally.

Their achievements not only bring pride to Ghana but also serve as a challenge for the next generation of swimmers aiming to break even more records in the near future.
