The paramount Chief of Wenchi, Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, has sworn in Ohemma Pokua Afoa Dankoto ||, originally Cecilia Nana Ama Pokua Dekyi, as the town’s new queen mother. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Ahenfie Yefri Palace on Saturday, March 28.
The enstoolment of Ohemma Pokua Afoa Dankoto || was celebrated with a series of vibrant ceremonies, with the presence of several high-ranking chiefs in attendance to signify the rich cultural heritage of the Akan people.
The event was marked by colorful attire, traditional music, and dance, creating an atmosphere of joy and community spirit. It brought together a large gathering of local chiefs, elders, family members, and well-wishers, all coming together to honor the new queen mother of Wenchi .
During the colorful swearing-in, the newly enstooled
Queen Mother swore an oath to the entire community to uphold the traditions and help develop the Wenchi township.
“My ancestors served the town of Wenchi excellently during their days, and that has given me this opportunity also to serve.The newly enstooled queen mother said during her oath-taking. She also added, “I promise to respond to the call of Wenchi Town , whether in the morning, afternoon, or evening.”
In Akan tradition, the queen mother plays a crucial role in society. She is not just a ceremonial figure but a vital leader responsible for the community’s welfare.
