Director of communication for Movement for Change Mr. Solomon Owusu, says he does not believe the alleged assassination attempt on the Special Prosecutor should be taken seriously, following the Ministry of Interior’s directive for a probe into the matter.
Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Tuesday December 9, 2025, Mr. Owusu questioned the credibility of the allegation made by the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Sammy Darko.
According to him, the information available so far is not convincing enough to raise alarm, especially when key questions from the media could not be answered.
Mr. Owusu stated that the officer who broke the news could not confirm when the alleged attempt took place, whether the matter was reported to the police, or if an official investigation was conducted.
He wondered how a public officer responsible for fighting corruption could claim an attempt on his life yet fail to report it to law enforcement agencies.
He indicated that if there was truly an assassination attempt on the OSP, Mr. Kissi Agyabeng, the first point of call should have been the police if the OSP claimed that the incident happened last year and nothing was reported.
He further noted that such sensitive issues require transparency, adding that the public deserves information since national resources fund state institutions.
Mr. Owusu also suggested the claim could be a distraction from major corruption discussions in the country. He recalled similar past claims which proved unsubstantiated, referencing a case involving former minister Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor in 2010.
While acknowledging that the Interior Ministry has initiated preliminary steps to verify the allegation, Mr. Owusu maintained that he is convinced the matter may end without any significant findings.
”I believe investigations may show there’s nothing in it” he said.
His comment comes on the back of the ministry of interior’s order for a probe into the said alleged assassination attempt on the office of the special prosecutor Kissi, Agyabeng as claimed by the Director of Strategy, Research and Communication, Sammy Appiah Darko on an Accra based television station.
