Parliament on December 18, 2025, officially passed the Ghana Sports Fund Bill, unlocking structured financing for sports development across the country.
This landmark legislation, after extensive scrutiny and inter-agency collaboration, received final approval following comprehensive deliberations on the floor of the House.
Introduced under the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, led by Kofi Adams, the Bill underwent thorough review by Cabinet, the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Attorney-General, and other key stakeholders.
The Bill establishes a legal foundation for a multi-source, performance-driven Sports Development Fund focused on athlete welfare, infrastructure upgrades, grassroots programs, and talent identification.
It promises to mobilize billions of Ghana Cedis annually through diverse revenue streams, donations, and government appropriations.
An independent Governing Board will oversee operations, ensuring accountability while aligning with the upcoming National Sports Policy.
Lawmakers from both the Majority and Minority sides demonstrated rare bipartisan unity through multiple readings, spirited debates, and refinements.
This collective commitment signals a shared resolve to elevate Ghana’s sporting landscape beyond current limitations.
The passage directly reflects President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for sports under his administration.
The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has been mandated to reposition the sector as a strategic tool for national development, demanding robust legal, institutional, and financial reforms.
