Paul Pogba has officially joined AS Monaco on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract as the French midfielder aims to revive his career after a challenging period marked by a doping ban. The Ligue 1 club announced the signing on Saturday, June 28, 2025 marking a new chapter for the 32-year-old player, who has been seeking to return to top-level football following legal and health setbacks.
Pogba was handed a four-year doping ban in February 2024 after testing positive for DHEA, a substance known to boost testosterone levels. However, following a successful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sports, the suspension was reduced to 18 months, allowing him to return to action earlier than initially expected.
This development opened the door for Pogba to continue his professional career at a new club.
In November 2024, Juventus confirmed they had mutually agreed to terminate Pogba’s contract, which was set to expire in June 2026. His second spell with Juventus was marred by injuries and inconsistent performances after returning from Manchester United, where he originally played from 2016 to 2022.
His departure from Juventus now paves the way for a fresh start at Monaco, where he hopes to regain his form and fitness.
Pogba’s career has been filled with notable achievements, including winning the 2018 World Cup with France. His last appearance for the national team was in 2022, but knee surgery prevented him from participating in the Qatar World Cup. Despite his early promise, his time at Manchester United was limited to two trophies, the League Cup and Europa League won during his first season after a then-record transfer fee.
Monaco finished third in Ligue 1 last season, behind champions Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille. With Pogba’s arrival, the club aims to strengthen their midfield and mount a challenging campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
