The planned free train ride on the Accra-Tema line by the Ghana Railway Company Ltd, which was to begin January 8, has been postponed.
The 12 day free ride will rather take place in two weeks.
A statement by the Company said the decision was taken after an inspection of the line revealed that some people had encroached the area, particularly around Circle, Avenor and Achimota.
According to the statement, despite managing to get the encroachers off the line, they returned when railway workers went on Christmas break.
It said while dealing with the encroachers to make the lines safe, Management of Ghana Railways has also taken insurance cover for all passengers who patronise the trains and is putting in place mechanisms to ensure maximum passenger safety and comfort.
