Police officers in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital are being stigmatised following rumours in the media that a 55-year-old Police officer in the town has died of COVID-19.
Even though the Eastern Regional Health Directorate has refuted claims that the said police officer died of the disease, food vendors in Koforidua are reportedly refusing to sell food to police officers for fear of contracting the disease.
Some taxi drivers are also refusing to carry police officers in their vehicles.
The Deputy Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Francis Gomado, confirmed in an interview with GBC’s Radio Ghana in Koforidua that the Regional Police Command has received such reports.
He said this followed media reports that attributed the death of the police officer to covid-19.
He said the report has created problems for the police in Koforidua, adding that it is affecting them negatively.
