Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Saturday led a high-powered delegation to Akyem Wenchi to participate in the one-week observation of the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, Member of Parliament for the Akwatia Constituency.
The solemn ceremony drew hundreds of mourners, including political leaders across the divide, traditional authorities and constituents, who gathered to honour the memory of the 40-year-old legislator whose life was cut short in July this year.

The former President described the late MP as a brilliant and promising young parliamentarian whose dedication to public service and his constituents was unmistakable.
“Ernest Yaw Kumi was a rising star in Ghanaian politics, committed to the development of Akwatia and the advancement of our democracy. His passing is a painful loss, not only to the people of Akwatia but to the entire nation,” Akufo-Addo said.
He expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and constituents, praying for the soul of the late MP to find eternal rest in the bosom of the Almighty.
The event was also attended by former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Chief of Staff Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Minority Leader Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin and several Members of Parliament, all of whom joined in consoling the family and people of Akwatia.
For many mourners, the presence of the former President underscored the national significance of the loss and the esteem in which the young MP was held.
