Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaac Jay Hyde, says the Akwatia by-election should be seen as a moment for calm reflection rather than political hostility.
Speaking on GTV’s Current Agenda on Saturday, August 30, 2025, he urged political actors to use measured language, stressing that the nation has endured too many tragedies to continue on the path of contention.
“It is unfortunate that a life has been lost. The back-and-forth attacks are regrettable. Sometimes when incidents like this happen, we must branch off and reflect. It is not always about contention.”
Mr. Hyde pointed to recent national losses, including the death of several leaders in a helicopter accident, as a reminder that Ghana must prioritize unity.
“When I sit down to reflect on nationhood, I realise that within a short time we have lost a number of leaders. These are lessons for us as a country. Our choice of words must be calm, and our politics must focus on peace and progress,” he stated.
He concluded with an appeal for a peaceful vote on Tuesday: “Let us mobilize people to go and vote in peace. At the end of the day, the people themselves will be the victors.”
