The Movement for Change, founded by former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, has officially rebranded into a political party under the new name United Party (UP Plus). The party’s unveiling ceremony, held at a media event today, October 16, 2025, marks a significant milestone in Kyerematen’s political journey as he prepares to contest future elections with a fully recognized political organization.

The United Party’s vision is to make Ghana the economic powerhouse of Africa by 2040, driven by innovation, inclusive growth, and strong governance.
According to Mr Alan Kyerematen, the party’s leader, UP Plus offers a credible alternative to the long-standing winner-takes-all political structure, calling for an inclusive and visionary approach to national development.
The party officially received its registration certificate from the Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025, formalizing its transition from the Movement for Change to UP Plus.
Party Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface described the rebrand as a renewed commitment to good governance, credible leadership, and transformational change. He emphasized that the party has come to “resurrect the old bones in the aged who know much about United Party”.
The United Party’s emergence signals a potential shift in Ghana’s political landscape, with UP Plus positioning itself as a credible alternative to the traditional two-party system. With its regional and constituency structures already being set up across the country, the party is gearing up to make a significant impact in the country’s upcoming elections.
The party’s focus on economic transformation, job creation, and transparent governance aims to promote accountable and transparent governance, introduce a policy of zero tolerance for corruption, and protect the environment. With its launch, the United Party officially enters Ghana’s political arena as a contender promising unity, innovation, and a renewed sense of purpose for the nation’s future.
