With less than a week for Ghana’ s biggest opposition party, NPP to elect its Flagbearer ahead of 2028 Presidential election, the Campaign Team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, one of the front runners in the contest, is highly hopeful of a convincing win for the former Vice President.
According to the Campaign Team, Dr. Bawumia is in the Ashanti region on a 12-day campaign as the last round of his 5th tour of all the Constituencies across Ghana.
The Deputy Regional Campaign Coordinator, Operations, Denis Kwakwah, said Dr. Bawumia is a firm believer of divine will and way, and will always submit himself to that, despite the different prophecies suggesting outcome of the NPP primary.
Speaking in an interview with Correspondent Nicholas Osei-Wusu, the Deputy Regional Campaign Coordinator noted, however, that, the 2024 Presidential Candidate of the NPP is convinced of once again, leading the party into the next national elections after Saturday’s internal polls.
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia believes that God double-speak; One God that we all serve cannot tell Mr. ‘A’ that somebody will win and go and tell another person that ‘Mr. B’ will win. We believe all these would have some influence on the delegates. However, he’s a man of faith; he believes in his God, who is Allah and we believe that, as God did for him in 2023 when people had prophesied that he was not somebody to look out for, he never envisaged in the early days of his political career that he was going to be the Flagbearer one day let alone, to contest for general elections, something that became possible because of God’s will or wish. So he believes that whatever the prophesies are, the outcome of the election would be in his favour as God has done for him before”, Mr. Kwakwah said.
He noted that, the grassroots’ reception of Dr. Bawumia in all the constituencies visited so far has been encouraging and offered the Flagbearer aspirant the opportunity to espouse his vision focused on matters of nation building and welfare of NPP members.
Mr. Kwakwah, a former Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NPP, said Dr. Bawumia’s campaign is hinged on honesty and decorum rather than thriving on fake identity to be relevant in seeking the trust of the delegates and people of Ghana for the presidency. That is why he is leveraging on both experience and the youth now and in his next government.
“Experience, they say, is the best teacher. …whoever is moving with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is not doing so because of appointment. Most of these men even think they’ve even finished serving the country, except that, they don’t want to die leaving their NPP in opposition and so they’ve to take part in the important selection of a candidate, a candidate that is expected to win in the next general elections. And so this is the simple reason why most of these people are following Dr. Bawumia.”
“Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia understands that the next phase of government will well depend on young people. That’s the reason why he’s given some of us young people to take front roles in his campaign”, he said.
Zeroing in on the Ashanti region on the last lap of the campaign, the Deputy Regional Campaign Coordinator in charge of Operations said, Dr. Bawumia will conclude the tour on the 28th of this month after interacting with all the Constituencies, adding that, the delegates have accorded him the best reception so far fortifying his optimism of emerging victorious in the flagbearership race.
