Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, has emerged victorious in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.

The primary, held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, was conducted to select the party’s candidate for the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election following the death of the late MP, Mahama Naser Toure.

The results from the two voting centers show:

Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed – 431 votes

Hajia Amina Adam – 399 votes

Mohammed Ramme – 88 votes

Dr. Yakubu Azindow – 45 votes

Mohammed Najib Sani – 1 vote

The closely contested primary attracted considerable attention amid discussions around campaign conduct. During the election, Baba Jamal’s campaign distributed items such as 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs to delegates, which he described as gestures of goodwill, insisting they were not intended to influence the outcome.

Following his win, Baba Jamal called for party unity and collective effort, emphasizing that his victory is for all NDC members in the constituency.

“With this win, I am committed to working together with all party members to secure the seat in the Ayawaso East by-election,” he said.

Scenes of jubilation were reported across the constituency as delegates and supporters celebrated the outcome, marking the start of preparations for the party’s campaign in the forthcoming by-election.
