Former Vice President and 2024 NPP Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has reaffirmed his commitment to party unity, assuring members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that he would not take any action that could cause division or instability within the party.
Addressing thousands of supporters at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Thursday, August 28, 2025, after filing his nomination papers to contest the party’s flagbearer position, Dr Bawumia stressed that the NPP’s focus must remain on defeating its opponents outside the party. “Our true opponent is not within. Our true opponent is out there,” he said, urging fellow aspirants to see the race as an internal process that should not lead to disunity.
He emphasized that unity was critical to the NPP’s chances of victory in the next general election. “We need unity to win, and I promise you that, just as you have known me to be, I would not do anything to bring division or conflict within the party,” he assured the cheering crowd. He added, “If there were to be anyone to create problems in the NPP, it wouldn’t be Dr Bawumia.”
The former Vice President also highlighted his track record as a loyal and disciplined member of the NPP, noting that his approach to the contest would continue to reflect his longstanding commitment to peace, order and collective progress.
Beyond internal politics, Dr Bawumia outlined aspects of his vision for Ghana, including strategies to expand the economy and create jobs. He underscored the importance of implementing policies that would transform key sectors and improve opportunities for citizens, positioning the NPP as the party best prepared to secure the nation’s future.
