The Civil Society Organization Platform for Good Governance (CSOPGG) has expressed worry over the government’s delay in releasing the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives across the country.
The group says the delay in appointing substantive MMDCEs has weakened the local government system and negatively impacted efforts to decentralized governance.
At a News Conference in Tamale, the Spokesperson for the group, Alhaji Mohammed Awal, further demanded that government ensure a thirty percent representation of women in appointing MMDCEs.
“This is the first time since 1993 when appointment of MMDCEs is delayed by close to a year,” Alhaji Awal noted.
The CSOPGG has also demanded the release of the District Assembly Common Fund for the 4th Quarter of 2020.
“The 4th Quarter of 2020 District Assembly Common Fund must be released without any further delays and efforts made to release the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Quarters funds for 2021 to all Assemblies”, the group emphasized.
