Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mrs. Jean Mensah says she inherited a very weak institution which was not founded on rules.

She expressed worry about how the Commission was run describing it as a free for all institution that lacked governance framework and was a subject of state capture by foreign elements.

According to the Chairperson as it stands now the EC has terminated the contract of the foreign IT firm engaged in 2012 to manage the elections data center.

The foreign firm was said to have unfettered access to the data centre, could shut down systems arbitrarily, and was charging US$5.2 million for maintenance and internet annually.

Mrs Jean Mensah who made this known at a meeting with President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House in Accra, said the Commission has decided to use its internal I.T staff to manage all I.T related activities in the management of elections.

Mrs Mensah said the Commission will deploy state of the art ICT equipment for the 2020 election.
