The Electoral Commission (EC) has formally announced the cancellation of the December 17 referendum that was to amend Article 55, clause 3 of the 1992 Constitution.
In a press release signed by its Chairperson Jean Mensah, the EC stated that the decision follows notification from the Speaker of Parliament of the withdrawal of two bills that gave authority for the holding of the referendum.
The Commission further notified the public that District level elections to elect assembly men and women, and unit committee members, will still come on as scheduled.
