The Electoral Commission (EC) has postponed the special voting exercise for the Eastern and Western Regions to Thursday, December 5, after recalling ballot papers due to a reported issue.

Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, announced at a press briefing on Sunday, December 1, that a single defaced ballot paper had been discovered at the Checkpoint Printing House, the company responsible for producing the ballots. The defaced paper, which was supposed to be destroyed, raised concerns and prompted the EC to act swiftly.

National Security reported the incident, leading the EC to recall the affected ballot papers, start reprinting them, and implement measures to avoid similar issues in the future.

The special voting exercise, initially set for Monday, December 2, is specifically for security personnel, election officials, and media practitioners. While it will proceed as planned in other regions, the new date applies only to the Eastern and Western Regions.

The EC has assured the public of its commitment to transparency and credible elections. Jean Mensa called on voters and candidates to remain calm as the commission resolves the issue.
