A youth group in the Garu Constituency of the Upper East Region, aligned with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dr. Thomas Winsum Anaba.

The youth group, in a peaceful protest, described the MP’s leadership as discriminatory and poor, labelling it as “worrisome.”

According to the group, Dr. Anaba has failed to ensure fairness in the distribution of political appointments in the constituency.

Addressing the media at a press conference in Garu on Monday, June 2, 2025, the aggrieved NDC youth cited several instances of alleged bias, including the awarding of Ghana School Feeding Programme contracts and an attempt by the MP to reappoint an individual as the Garu District YEA Director, despite the recent appointment and assumption of duty by Thomas Tampuri Wennam.

They accused the MP of working exclusively with individuals who supported him during the party’s parliamentary primaries.

The group has therefore called on the national and Upper East regional executives of the NDC to intervene and caution their MP before the situation escalates.

“We call on the national and regional executives of the party to call Dr. Anaba to order and to desist from running a parallel administration,” they reiterated.

Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr. John Abugba Abaare, has dismissed the youth group’s claims, stating that the MP should not be blamed for the current tensions over appointments and the awarding of Ghana School Feeding Programme contracts.

According to the DCE, the appropriate body to be held accountable is the NDC Garu Constituency Executive Committee, which he believes is at the center of the misunderstanding and growing tension in the area.
