Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has called for Ghana’s partnership with China to extend beyond physical infrastructure and focus on sustainable development that directly benefits the country’s young people.
Addressing the joint celebration of the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China and 65 years of diplomatic relations between Ghana and China, the Vice President commended China’s contributions but urged a stronger emphasis on the future.

“We are determined to make sure that our cooperation leads to long-lasting, local development,” she said. “And at the center of this must be our talented and hardworking youth.”
Professor Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the significant role China has played in Ghana’s progress through roads, bridges, hospitals, schools, and cultural exchanges. However, she stressed that future collaboration must place young people at its core.
“Our investments and partnerships must not only deliver infrastructure but also open doors of opportunity that safeguard the future of the next generation,” she noted.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, said China remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening its partnership with Ghana, with a focus on delivering tangible benefits to both countries and their citizens. He acknowledged the contributions of the Chinese people and enterprises operating in Ghana, noting that the strong bilateral relationship would not have been possible without their dedication.
He further urged Chinese companies in Ghana to strictly adhere to local laws and regulations while actively contributing to national development through corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The occasion also reflected on more than six decades of bilateral friendship, with both countries reaffirming commitments to expand cooperation in trade, culture, and national development.
