In a strategic move to strengthen Ghana’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa, the Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), with a key focus on ongoing infrastructure projects at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
During the visit, the Minister toured the construction site of GACL’s new 11-storey head office, a major addition to the airport’s infrastructure. The office complex, expected to be completed within 24 months, will feature modern offices, multipurpose spaces, and advanced meeting facilities to support efficient airport management and operations.

Hon. Nikpe expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work so far and encouraged contractors and project teams to ensure timely delivery. He emphasized the importance of such infrastructure in advancing Ghana’s aviation sector and reinforcing its competitiveness in the sub-region.
Another key highlight of the Minister’s visit was the strategic repurposing of Terminal 2 (T2) to support both domestic and international flight operations. The move is part of efforts to ease congestion at Terminal 3 (T3) and enhance the passenger experience at KIA.
According to GACL officials, phase one of the T2 repurposing project has been completed, with phase two expected to be finalized by the end of the year. Once fully operational, the revamped terminal is projected to accommodate rising traffic volumes and improve turnaround times for airlines.

Hon. Nikpe wrapped up his visit with an interactive session with GACL staff, during which he commended their commitment to service excellence and urged continued dedication as Ghana works to position itself as a premier aviation gateway in the region.
The Minister’s tour underscores government’s ongoing investment in aviation infrastructure and its commitment to building a resilient and modern transportation network to drive economic growth.
