Amidst the controversy surrounding the recent Ablekuma North election rerun, involving former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Hawa Koomson, Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, has vowed that those responsible for the violence will be brought to justice.

Speaking during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, 14 July 2025, Muntaka emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections.

He stated that even in the president’s absence, the Vice President had already ordered an investigation. “She instructed, I mean, she called me. I told her, ‘Madam, I’ve already instructed the IGP.’”

The Interior Minister explained that he had asked the Inspector General of Police (IGP) what steps were being taken: “He said, ‘We have to review the cameras.’”

Minister Muntaka assured the public that all those involved in the violence would be arrested unless they fled the country. “The assurance is that we are not going to allow this to go unpunished unless they flee the country. So long as they are around, they should be rest assured, the law will take its course,” he added.

Touching on related matters in Akwatia, the minister noted that all cases would be handled lawfully and in accordance with due process.

The Interior Minister also issued a caution to all political parties. “Whether you are in the NDC, whether you are in the NPP, whether you are independent, let me remind you of the Vigilantism and Related Offences Act, what it says and what it entails,” he stressed.

The minister’s comments are likely to be welcomed by those who have condemned the violence in Ablekuma and serve as a clear message to all political stakeholders.
