Former member of parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has spoken out about a heated exchange between him and Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Abronye DC, during the party’s recent ‘Thank You Tour’.

‎Speaking in an interview on Metro TV on the 30th April, 2025, Mr. Agyapong said he felt deeply disrespected by Abronye’s comments during the event, and he could not remain silent.

‎“Abronye is my good friend, but because of politics, he thinks he can talk to me anyhow. I won’t allow anyone to take me for granted,” he stated firmly.

‎According to Mr. Agyapong, many people advised him not to respond to Abronye’s remarks, but he believes staying silent would send the wrong message, especially as someone who has presidential ambitions.

‎“I’ve helped this man before. I gave him cars and even spent GHC 480,000 on his campaign. Yet, he disrespected me in front of party members, and I was expected to keep quiet? That’s not leadership,” he said.

‎He compared the situation to a moment involving boxing legend Mike Tyson, whose wife once insulted him during an interview without him realizing until later. Mr. Agyapong said he is not illiterate and understood the disrespect clearly.

‎“I want Ghanaians to know I will always speak the truth and stand my ground. If I can’t correct wrongs now, I won’t be able to lead effectively as president,” he added.
