The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to reclaim the Kpandai parliamentary seat through legal technicalities rather than democratic means.
Appearing as a panellist on GTV’s Current Agenda: Your Voice, Your Power, the NDC’s Director of Elections and IT, Dr Rashid Tanko, said the NPP’s actions before and after the Tamale High Court ruling suggested the party anticipated defeat. He claimed that on the day the High Court delivered its judgment, the NPP entered the courtroom with both an appeal and a motion to stay execution already prepared.
“If they were confident of winning, why did they come to court with those processes already in their pockets?” he asked.
Dr Tanko further said that during case management proceedings from February to November, all parties, including the NPP and the Electoral Commission, agreed on the issues for trial, none of which questioned the court’s jurisdiction or gazette notification procedures.
He argued that raising such objections at the Supreme Court stage amounted to misrepresentation and an abuse of the judicial process. Dr Tanko added that the matter is expected to return to court on January 13, a date he described as significant, as the NDC prepares to pursue accountability over what it alleges were fraudulent representations before the courts.
