The President, John Dramani Mahama, has warned that Ghana’s economic turnaround is not enough to drive Africa’s progress, calling for continental cooperation to reset development across the continent.
Speaking at the Accra Reset Davos Convening on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on Thursday, January 22, 2026, he said while Ghana’s achievements are commendable, they cannot make the continent a “jewel in the dirt”.
He urged African nations to scale up successful initiatives from individual countries and work together to transform the entire development model for Africa and the Global South.
“Ghana’s success alone is not enough. We must knit together the patchwork of success stories across Africa,” he said, stressing the need for collective action to tackle long-standing challenges such as poverty, conflict, and dependence on foreign aid.
