The President, John Dramani Mahama, has constituted a Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy to provide high-level guidance on Ghana’s economic recovery and long-term growth.

The group, made up of leading economists, business leaders and academics, will advise the President on macroeconomic management, fiscal discipline, debt sustainability and job creation.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, the move was described as part of the government’s broader effort to restore economic stability and accelerate inclusive growth.

According to the statement issues and signed by the Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the advisory body will play a key role in shaping policies linked to the 24-Hour Economy initiative, the Accelerated Export Development Programme and the government’s wider reset agenda.

The group will also support decision-making on industrial development, competitiveness and export-led growth, while offering guidance on private-sector expansion and investment mobilisation.

Members of the advisory group include Vice President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang; former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Kwabena Duffuor; private sector leaders, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah and Mr. Ishmael Yamson; as well as economists, Mr. Kwame Pianim, and Togbe Afede XIV.

Others are former Deputy Finance Minister, Nana Oye Mensah Yeboah; former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah; Ghana Stock Exchange CEO, Abena Amoah; and academics Prof. Priscilla Twumasi Baffour and Prof. Patience Aseweh Abor.

The Presidency said the group will provide independent, non-partisan advice and conduct periodic assessments of the country’s economic performance, proposing corrective measures where necessary.

It will report directly to the President and submit advisory memoranda and strategic reviews as required.
