The President, John Dramani Mahama, has requested the Majority Leader and his Chief Whip in Parliament to withdraw a Private Member’s Bill that seeks to repeal the law establishing the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

The request, issued on Thursday, December 11, 2025, follows the President’s recent public support for strengthening the OSP. At a meeting with the National Peace Council on Wednesday, President Mahama stressed that the Special Prosecutor’s Office remains an important institution in Ghana’s fight against corruption.

He noted that abolishing the OSP would undermine ongoing efforts to promote transparency and accountability in public office. Instead, he urged the office to work harder to win public trust by effectively investigating and prosecuting corruption-related cases.

The President reiterated his commitment to ensuring that state anti-corruption bodies receive the support needed to perform their duties.
