President-elect Mr. John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to implementing sometimes very stringent measures aimed at revitalising the ailing nation.

In a nationwide televised address after the Electoral Commission declared him the president-elect on Monday, December 9, 2024, Mr Mahama underscored the significance of these stringent measures over the next four years.

“We would be initiating important governance reforms and sometimes severe measures in the next four years to reset our nation and bring it back on track as the Black star of Africa,” he reiterated.

Aside from Mr. Mahama’s victory, his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), also won a majority in the Parliament race.

So far, over 182 seats have already been confirmed for the NDC, including key constituencies traditionally held by the ruling NPP.

He pulled 6,328,397 votes cast, representing 56.55% of the valid votes cast, defeating his primary rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who garnered 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
