As Parliament prepares to resume sitting on May 27, 2025, the Minority in Parliament has organized a strategic leadership seminar in Accra to sharpen the focus and effectiveness of its committee leaders.
The seminar, held in Accra, brought together key members of the Minority caucus, focused on enhancing internal coordination, strengthening legislative oversight, and preparing for constructive engagement in the second meeting of the legislative calendar.
Speaking in an interview, the Minority Leader, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, emphasized that the forum was not intended to obstruct government business, but rather to position the Minority as a responsible, proactive opposition, prepared to hold the government accountable while supporting democratic progress.

“The meeting is part of our preparation for the second meeting. Our aim is to be effective, constructive, and proactive, not to obstruct government business,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
He explained that the seminar was also designed to equip committee leaders to play their oversight role more effectively by promoting accountability, presenting policy alternatives, and fostering legislative collaboration.
“The meeting is to plan on how to be effective and ensure that the right things are done in our country. We want the good of democracy, and we are sending a strong message to our opponents that we will hold their feet to the fire. At the same time, we are going to be responsible in opposition,” he added.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin also used the platform to reaffirm the Minority’s long-term commitment to democratic values and national development, assuring Ghanaians of their readiness to lead when the opportunity arises.
“We also assure Ghanaians that we are ready to take the reigns of government in 2028 to make Ghana better,” he declared.

Members of the Minority caucus affirmed their determination to actively contribute to parliamentary proceedings and to hold the executive accountable in a manner that respects Ghana’s democratic institutions.
