Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency and Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, has formally petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to launch a full investigation into an alleged unprovoked act of violence against him by a uniformed police officer during the “Save the Judiciary” demonstration at Parliament House.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, Mr. Afenyo-Markin called on the police administration to take disciplinary action against the said officer, identified as Constable Forson.

In a related development, the Ghana Police Service says it has reviewed multiple video recordings related to an alleged assault on a police officer by Mr. Afenyo-Markin during the same demonstration.
Following the review, the Service has written to the Speaker of Parliament, requesting the release of the Minority Leader to assist in ongoing investigations into the alleged incident. The officer involved will also be assisting with the investigation.
