The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) will meet today to consider a possible downward review of the filing and nomination fees for Presidential aspirants.
The meeting comes after nine aspirants petitioned the Party’s Council of Elders over the 20 thousand and 400 thousand Ghana cedis cost for nomination forms and filing fees, which they have only two days to pay.
The chairman of the council of Elders, former President Jerry John Rawlings has expressed concern about the increase in the filing fee for the party’s presidential primaries and called on NEC to take a second look at the decision.
He said with the aspirants having barely the time to raise the high amount, a perception may be created that the party is being handed over to the highest bidder.
However, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah justifies the amount, saying that is the only way to fund the Party’s activities.
