The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has successfully held its much-touted National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
About 6,000 delegates from across Ghana and overseas branches attended the conference.
The 2025 edition of the National Delegates Conference was held under the theme: “Rebuilding Together with Our Values.”
At the heart of the gathering were 50 wide-ranging consolidated motions—termed “constitutional proposals”—which sought to strengthen the party’s internal structures, enhance accountability, and revitalise grassroots engagement.
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Joseph Osei Owusu, had earlier told the media that the motions were drawn from more than 300 amendment proposals submitted by party members across the country.
“In all, we had a little over 50 motions. You may have one motion which includes about 50 proposed amendments. What we did was to consolidate the various related issues, and members voted on those motions,” Mr. Osei Owusu explained.
According to him, the proposals were reviewed, compiled into a booklet, and distributed to members through the party’s General Secretary ahead of the vote. Voting concluded by 4:00 p.m.
Key decisions and proposals passed
A total of 59 key proposals were considered, reflecting the party’s focus on internal reforms. Highlights included:
Grassroots Empowerment: Delegates approved measures to expand Polling Station Executive Committees and establish five-member Electoral Area Committees aimed at deepening grassroots participation.
Structural Reorganisation: Amendments were adopted to restructure the party’s Constituency and Regional Executive Committees, creating both elected and appointed roles for greater efficiency.
Revamping the National Youth Wing: Article 15 was revised to redefine the structure, functions, and leadership of the party’s Youth Wing.
Governance Mechanisms: Delegates backed proposals to expand the National Council’s Vetting Committee and restrict dual office-holding to improve transparency and accountability.
Professionalising Internal Roles: New roles were approved under Article 10, including Legal Director, IT Coordinator, and Coordinator for Persons with Disabilities (PWDA), aimed at strengthening the party’s operational capacity.
